The regular monthly meeting of SWVADA was held on Monday, 21 April 2008 at Hollywood's in Hollins, VA. President Blanche Mahoney called the meeting to order. BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Janet Brown, Gary Goodale, Katherine Graman, Marie Klimchuk, Blanche Mahoney, Beckie Mitchell, Laura Nelson, Pat Nelson, Rebecca Splan, Shelley Stewart, Nancy Stone, Bob Whitehurst. BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Susan Dallas, Cheryl Haas, Robin Jones.
President's Report: Blanche Mahoney
Katherine Graman has volunteered to handle the SWVADA Library. Contact her if interested in checking out videos/DVD's. The library will also be available for checkouts/returns at Board Meetings and SWVADA events.
Our three events so far this year (Educational Sunday, April Fix A Test, April Schooling Show), have all been very successful. We are on track for another great year!
All current members should have received the 2008 SWVADA Omnibus.
Vice-President's Report: Laura Nelson
Discussed contracts for the Licensed Show. Beckie will confirm with Judge.
The Fix A Test went well. The conditions were good. The ring was left up until the following day for use by Pony Club.
Show Secretaries will need an updated membership list in order to verify member rates status. Secretaries should contact Pat Nelson by email for list.
Secretary's Report: Gary Goodale
VOTED to accept March Minutes as posted.
Treasurer's Report: Bob Whitehurst
Checking Account: $6,053.08 / Savings: $1,073.97 / CD: $3,244.80.
Bob will meet with Ginger Edwards and prepare tax report.
Adult Camp: Marie Klimchuk, Laura Nelson, (Cheryl Haas)
Use of Rockbidge Hunt Club for evening meals may not be possible (because of restrictions on use by their insurance). Will investigate further and pursue other options if necessary.
The cost for Camp will probably be around $625 this year (not confirmed yet).
Clinics: (Judy Gustafson), Laura Nelson
Laura reported that Harriet Peterson (USDF Instructor through 4th Level), will conduct SWVADA Clinics on June 21 and August 16. The cost will be $75 per ride, $45 for semi-private. First priority will be given to SWVADA members who have completed their volunteer hours. Clinics will be held at Chimney Hill Farm in Salem. See website for further information. (Clinic Entry Form in the 2008 Omnibus on page 57.) Mail to Laura Nelson. OPENING DATE: Monday, 19 June 2008.
Educational Sunday: Laura Nelson, Rebecca Splan
Members are encouraged to send ideas for possible topics to Rebecca.
Suggestion to have a survey/evaluation for topics , etc.
Young Riders: Shelley Stewart
Discussed various possibilities for promoting Young Riders and some of the difficulties involved. Ideas included possible clinic, online survey.
Licensed Show: Beckie Mitchell, Nancy Stone, Bob Whitehurst
Due to limited number of entries, decided that only one ring will be needed.
Discussed prizes and sale of mugs.
Lunches will be reserved in advance. Sponsorships are needed. (Form is on the website.)
SWVADA is glad to welcome many new members!
Request that copies of the 2008 Omnibus be sent to Pat for new memberships.

Ribbons have arrived. Will order additional as needed.
Green Hill Park: (Susan Dallas), Marie Klimchuk
Bob reported that the scheduled work day had to be postponed.
Next meeting of the GH Committee will be May 1st.
Equipment: Bob Whitehurst
Cones have been ordered. Will keep old for emergencies. New letters will be purchased.
Southern States Labels: Laura Nelson
Reminder to send the PROOF of PURCHASE labels to Laura. These support our video library.
Website: Sean Pecor, Nancy Stone
Will create template for format of Ride Times and Results.
Allow one week lead time for posting info on web.
Next meeting: Will decide on banner ads, fees, etc.
Request made for tracking visits to website.
Request for information to post on the Member Salutes section; also need information for the Calendar.
Nancy will bring a proposal re: possible changes to be made.
VADA: Janet Brown, Susan Dallas, Katherine Graman
April Schooling Show: Blanche Mahoney, Pat Nelson
Very pleased with the number of volunteers. Show had a profit of $697.
Bob will check on the status of donations to the VA Horse Center since the restructuring of its organization.
Re: Volunteer Incentive Program -Susan Dallas is preparing a report.

Congratulations to the members of the Roanoke Valley Pony Club Dressage Rally Team for their excellent placing in the competition held on April 19,20 at VHC.
