The regular monthly meeting of SWVADA was held on Monday, 19 November 2007 at Hollywood's in Hollins, VA. President Susan Dallas called the meeting to order. BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Susan Dallas, Gary Goodale, Gabi Hooten, Robin Jones, Blanche Mahoney, Beckie Mitchell, Laura Nelson, Pat Nelson, Rebecca Splan, Nancy Stone, Bob Whitehurst. BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Sarah Denham, Annette Massey Shaw, Jeanette Shires. MEMBERS/GUESTS PRESENT: Janet Brown, Marie Klimchuk, Shelley Stewart.

VOTED to accept October minutes as posted.

Educational Seminar: Gary Goodale
All plans have been finalized. The seminar with Judy Westenhoefer will be held on Sunday, 2 December 2007 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at the Roanoke County Main Library. Invitations have been sent to Pony Club and 4H members. This is a free presentation and open to all.
Educational Sunday: Laura Nelson/Rebecca Splan
DATE CHANGE: Due to a conflict in scheduling, SWVADA's Educational Sunday will be held at VA Tech on Sunday, 17 February 2008.
Discussed possible topics, such as Lunging the Rider (Nancy Stone has volunteered to instruct); Gymnastic Exercises, Ground Work for Young Horses, How to Volunteer! Rebecca welcomes suggestions; please send to her.
Annual Social: Blanche Mahoney
Date: Saturday, 19 January 2008 at the Salem Civic Center. Cost: $20. SEE www.swvada.org for details, menu, and reservations.
The proceeds from the auction will go to Green Hill. Decided that smaller items will be by silent auction only. Robin Jones volunteered to decorate.
Barcelli Award: Gary Goodale
Extended deadline for submitting nominations to December 1st.
Green Hill Park: Bob Whitehurst
Reviewed and discussed footing in arenas. Bob explained the structure of the GHP Committee. All possible means are being explored to insure the best possible footing for shows.
Equipment: Bob Whitehurst
Suggested replacing the fiberglass letters. Will contact Jan Keener for info.
Reported on options re: purchase of a laptop for show use. VOTED to make purchase. Need to check on insurance for.
VOTED to purchase the portable sound system that was tested at the last clinic.
Licensed Show: Nancy Stone
Beckie Mitchell volunteered to serve as Secretary.
A plan to benefit the Susan G. Komen Charity (for breast cancer research) is in progress. This charity has a local chapter and has global outreach. Nancy has filed an application for the 2008 show on May 24th.
Will hold a Dressage Foundation Class.
Bob has sent bills for outstanding debts for the 2007 show.

The website has been updated through November 17th. The Schooling Division is final as posted.
Memberships are coming in. REMINDER: Dues are due now.

The GAIG's show was huge and adjustments were made for the bad weather conditions. Susan expressed appreciation to SWVADA members who volunteered throughout the show.
Next meeting is 16 December 2007. Susan will continue as a SWVADA rep. Each chapter is allowed 3 representatives, so we would like to find 2 more volunteers.
VOTED: The VADA SWVADA Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Laura Nelson.
Dana Poleski will serve as editor again this year.
Decided that ads will be accepted in the Omnibus. Rates are: Full page - $45; Half page- $30; Business Card - $15. All ads must be camera ready. DEADLINE is January 15th and should be sent to Dana.
The deadline for prize lists is also January 15th. Decided that in the event shows have not finalized judges, can list as TBA (to be posted later on the website).

SWVADA bids a fond farewell to Jeanette Shires, who is moving to Ohio. Jeanette has been one of SWVADA's longtime members, a Board member, and an outstanding volunteer. Best wishes to Jeanette and her family in their new location.
Farewell also to Sarah Denham who has completed her graduate work at VA Tech and will be working in the Williamsburg area. Sarah served on the Board, was a VADA rep, and worked with JR/Young Riders. Best of luck in your new endeavor, Sarah.
