PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The August 27 SWVADA schooling show was a stellar success thanks to the hard work of show management. A HUGE thank you goes to Bob Whitehurst (show management coordinator), Kim Smith (show secretary), Linda Oberlender (ring set up coordinator) and all the volunteers who stepped up to ensure that "the show would go on." Turnout was excellent, spirits were high, and the weather cooperated (for the most part!) - making for a great show experience. Thanks, everyone!Beckie

| VADA Board
Minutes July 10, 2005 Members Present: Bettina Longaker (CH), Beth Jandl (CH), Sherri Booye (CH), Ellen Brock (CH), Dianne Boyd (Nova), Jessie Ginsburg (Nova), Robin Dannels (Nova), Cheryl Painter (NE), Anne Draine (NE), Alison Douglas (Central), Beth Rippel (SE), Susan Dallas (SW), Sharon Ackley (VADAF), Debbie Bowman (VADAF), Jane Palmer (SV). Nancy Lowey and Tigger Montague representing the Celebrity Freestyle Committee were also present. 1. Celebrity Freestyle: Nancy Lowey, show manager of the Celebrity Freestyle, reported that this year’s event went well. Sponsor money increased this year to over $20,000 but the gate, Calcutta, and silent auction were all down from last year. A list of expenses incurred by Marlene Eagleburger was passed around. Total income in still being determined. Tigger and Nancy advised the Board of the various aspects of putting on the CF and discussed the possibility of doing more out-of-town advertising and changing the format to attract more dressage people. Discussion followed on ways to improve the business aspects and the need for better interaction and communications between VADA and the CF committee with respect to sponsors and discretionary spending. It was decided to establish a treasurer on the CF committee who would be able to write checks on the VADA/CF account. Debbie Bowman suggested that the event be made more family oriented and involve more children activities, such as face painting and stick-horse races. She will take responsibility for handling these activities next year. There was a consensus that more children/family activities would increase the attendance. The need to hire a professional/consultant specializing in sponsorship development to secure sponsors for the CF and possibly the Regional Championships was also discussed. A DVD produced by a professional for showing to corporate sponsors was shown to the Board. Resumes will be pursued to be presented to the Board for a future decision. Debbie Bowman will represent the VADA on the Celebrity Freestyle Committee. Marlene Eagleburger will act as treasurer of the CF Committee. 2. Dressage in the Wine Country: The Board discussed briefly the possibility of having such an event in a winery venue. 3. Treasurer’s Report: Show Account: $17,000.00 Operating Account: $6,000.00 Tina requested a vote for $200.00 to sponsor a reception at the NARYC. Tina suggested that the VADA donate $5,000 to the USDF Capital Campaign. Debbie Bowman made the motion that the VADA donate $1000 a year (payable in November of each year) for a total of 5 years to the USDF Capital Campaign; for a total of $5,000. Beth Jandl seconded, all in favour. 4. GAIG Update: Dianne brought samples of the sweatshirts and the Board decided on the light blue for 2005 at a cost of $2,000 for 150. Holly submitted a verbal report via Tina. She has started and was wondering about the caterer, Revolutionary Soup. The Board oked Revolutionary Soup for $3,000. The Board also approved paying for Holly’s ticket to Atlanta Sunday night, as her daughter starts the East Coast Jr. Ice Skating Championships that Monday and she is a volunteer - cheap ticket of course. Casey & Beth have sent out over 68 letters to potential sponsors/vendors. They have received a commitment for $2905 so far. The Sponsor/Vendor ad was placed in the Youth Team Championships and VADA/Nova programs. 5. Adult Team Challenge: Jessie reported that she only has one team so far. She asked the Chapter Reps. to push this great competition to their members. 6. Other Business: Tina reported that she had emailed George Williams about a clinic in 2006, but she has not heard back yet. He is very busy competing in Europe. The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Jane Palmer, Secretary |
