PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
September is here which means that competitors are gearing up for the fall shows and the competition season is almost over. Are you motivated after watching the Olympics? (An aside: "Yeah" to NBC and Bravo for showing so much of the dressage competition!) Anyway, SWVADA still has lots to offer for fun and competition. On Sept. 9, happy campers will converge on Fancy Hill Equestrian Center for the annual SWVADA camp. This year both clinicians are new to the SWVADA camp experience but have lots of experience with other camps. Even though you might not be attending camp this year, you're welcome to come out and catch a few rides and get to know some of the campers. It might "hook" you for next year! In October, SWVADA will put on the "Halloween" show - lots of fun and frights (not the rides, I hope!). In November, look for a clinic or two.... to help you examine your progress this year and focus on training goals for the winter. So even though fall is in the air, there's still plenty of "horsey" experiences left in the year. Come on out and join us!Beckie

Late News Update!
The August 28th SWVADA Schooling Show was a huge success. We had 2 rings operating and 90+ rides! It was nice to see so many new faces at the show. Especially nice was the large turnout of Junior Riders! Many thanks to Manager Rebecca Splan, Secretary Holly Veloso, and the large host of Volunteers who made the show happen.
More SWVADA WINNERS at Dressage at Lexington
3 members of SWVADA finished in the top six at First Level in the Amateur Challenge at Dressage at Lexington. Gail Stanley placed second, Pam Bennington placed fourth and Blanche Mahoney placed sixth.
SWVADA, also, had two teams participate: Team Hot Flashes (Blanche Mahoney, Gail Stanley and Judy Gustafson) placed first. Team Cowgirl up! (Susan Dallas, Pam Bennington, Robin Jones and Jane Leggett) placed second.
Reminder to Competitors Going for Year End Awards:
Don't forget that a new policy this year states you MUST turn in a Volunteer Form to the Points Chairperson documenting your 4 required hours of volunteer service to be eligible for all SWVADA Year End Awards (see page 31 in the 2004 Omnibus). A copy of the form is printed in the omnibus and is available from show managers at all SWVADA sponsored shows. You can also get a copy on the SWVADA web site under "Volunteers". It is the competitor's responsibility to get these forms in, even if the show manager turns in a list of volunteers for each event. The deadline for volunteering is 10/30; the deadline for submitting the form is 11/30. Don't wait till the last minute and jeopardize your chances of getting an award! Send the completed forms to:Ellen Aiken, Points Chairperson / 1911 Arden Rd. SW / Roanoke, VA 24015 / Huntaik@rev.net540/345-4761Need a volunteer hours form? Click here. Print it out.
