President's Message

I can't believe that it is October already!  Where has the year gone?  I hope you have achieved all your goals this year.  If not, we only have one more schooling show to get your scores or your volunteer hours.  This will be on October 11 at Green Hill Park.  Please send your entries to Susan Dallas.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact me, Pam Bennington.

We are getting ready to vote for our Board next year.  If you would like to be on it, please contact Harriet Keys.  We would love to have you join us.

Recently the Federal Bureau Of Useless Statistics For Horsepeople  released the results of their latest research.

  • the average horse owner is female, over 30 years old, has the body of a 29 year old, the face of a 49 year old, and the toes of a man who drops rocks for a living. She'll spend 110% of her total income on horses during her lifetime.
  • the average instructor will bellow, "Keep your heels down! Shorten your reins!" two billion times in his lifetime....to absolutely no avail.
  • the average rider suffers Equine Spontaneous Nasal Ooze Turbulence (a horse sneezes on her shirt) roughly 5,175 times in her life. In approximately 53% of these incidents, the khaki stain will never wash out of the shirt. Resulting effects on national laundry detergent sales are not factored into current statistics because the math was too complicated for the author.
  • the average judge winces at a rider's performance twice per hour. In dressage, the Wince Factor is expressed in decimal places on the score for each movement. At no time is the judge allowed to voluntarily withdraw, no matter how painful things get. By the way, four out of five dentists believe that 98% of horse show judges grit their teeth 60% of the time, causing about 48% of all adult orthodontic-related revenues.
  • White horses have greenish or brownish stains on their bodies 96.8% of the time. The other 3.2% of the time, 100% of their bodies are dirty.
  • as for shopping: 80% of horse owners spend 90% of their income on items marked down 75%. Later studies indicated that 99% of these people needed almost 4.75% of these items.
  • the average rider makes many, many (many, many, many...) riding errors in her career. The exact number is 2,376,809,116,023,474,531,950. But wait! Good news! Due to the fact that human beings learn from their mistakes, it is believed that riders are the smartest people in the galaxy.

This is but a tiny excerpt, see the magazine for the entire article.
