President's Message

Green Hill Park on Saturday, October 11, was the spot to be to see some wondrous sights!  Witches, ghosts, spiders and talking pumpkins mingled among the fearless riders participating in SWVADA's Frightfully Fun Schooling Show.  The slight mist in the morning never gave way to the predicted rain and only enhanced the ghoulish light of the morning.  Unearthly sounds could be heard from the warm-up ring to the dressage ring.  The horses were concerned with the sights and sounds but the riders did their work and all went according to schedule.  Susan Dallas and I would like to thank the set up crew:  Ellen Aiken, Robin Jones, Judy Bonin and Blanche Mahoney.  Bob Whitehurst dragged the ring to create a sand cloud to ride on, many, many, thanks.  Those who were brave enough to volunteer the day of the show were:  Judy Stanley, Annette Massey -Shaw, Ellen Aiken, Harriet Keys and Blanche Mahoney.  As I left the park, I heard in the chill air that surrounded me a ghoulish voice that said, "Same time, same place, see you next year!"

President’s Report: Pam Bennington
1. The October Schooling Show was small but had a great atmosphere. A small loss of $156 was incurred, but other shows have shown a profit so this was not considered a serious problem . It was noted that sometimes we have to absorb losses; the size of this show was probably affected by other shows’ proximity in date and the Region 1 Finals. Thanks to donations by: Blanche Mahoney (food), Pam Bennington and Susan Dallas (some prizes and decorations).
2. A letter of thanks for the friendliness and support from new member Kimberly Cowser was shared with the Board.

VADA News

Thanks to All!

On behalf of the management team at the recent Greater American Insurance Group (GAIG) USDF Region 1 Championships & VADA Fall Competition and the State VADA Board of directors, I would like to thank the multitude of volunteers that worked so diligently at our show at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington. Without our volunteers working so cohesively together the show would not have been the success it was.

I know, too, the Greater American Insurance Group representative, Bob Bishop and the USDF representative Alona Hathaway were equally pleased with the team effort and welcoming atmosphere shown by all through out the show.

Thank you, also, to all chapters, individuals, groups and corporations that were instrumental in supporting and sponsoring classes and events at the Championships.

As a GMO, our ability to produce a well organized, supported and competitor friendly show is top notch!

Best Regards,
Nancy Lowey
VADA State President

As always, my undying gratitude and thanks for a job
suberbly well done!  I know our volunteer workforce is
the reason that we continue to have and improve
championship shows at the VHC!  Such a great
coordinated effort (and ya'll looked good,
too!)...really enjoyed seeing the teamwork in all
rings.  Some finals rings sported 2 scribes, 2
gatekeepers, 2 runners and a steward- all dressed in
green and looking good! :)  I think that's important
to present that coordinated effort to the competitors!

As you may know, VADA has won the bid for the BLM in
2004 and the same management team will be in place.  I
will again be gathering volunteers and trying new and
improved ways to make everyone's job smoother.  My
updates will be on the way shortly and if anyone would
like to discuss improvements that can be made or
suggestions on particular jobs that will make it more
pleasant for everyone, I am all ears!

So, with that I will sign off for now.  To all of my
volunteers, I salute you!  This was the best run show
I have ever been a part of and I can't wait to see
what we all do with next year's BLM!  Holly Veloso
