PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

White breeches, black coats and spiffy horses. . . Spring has surely "sprung."  April has come and gone, and SWVADA's year is well underway.  The month began with a very successful "ride-a-test" with Frances Yeardley as the judge.  Many thanks to Annette Massey-Shaw for coordinating this well-received event.  The practice ring that was set up in conjunction with this event was a particular member pleaser.  We're glad that so many of you took the opportunity to come out and ride in an "official" ring - without the pressure of the judge sitting in the booth!  April ended with a wonderful Spring Schooling Show with Judy Westenhoefer as the judge.  Kudos to Pam Bennington and Susan Dallas for putting on such a fantastic first show of the season for SWVADA!  Thanks, too, to all the volunteers who pitched in to make both of these events function so smoothly!

Upcoming for SWVADA are the Spring Recognized Show, with judge Brigitte Simmons, and the June "ride-a-test" with judge Harriet Peterson.  If you're not planning to compete at the recognized show, be sure to contact Jeanette Shires about volunteering - or at the least come out and cheer your friends on.  Be on the lookout for information regarding the June "ride-a-test" via the mass email list.

Dust off those boots - see you at the shows!

Beckie

NEWS & NOTES

Important Notice to SWVADA Competitors for 2005:

There is an error in the 2005 Omnibus regarding the new rules for Recognized Horse of the Year Awards.  In January, the Board voted to change the requirements from a minimum of 3 to 4 scores, and that these scores must come from at least 2 different shows (see minutes from the February newsletter).  In the "Awards and Recognition - Recognized Show Horse of the Year" section of the Omnibus, the requirement for 2 shows was omitted.  Item #1 in that section should read:

1. Each horse/rider team must have a minimum of four (4) scores of 50% or higher      from two (2) or more open shows recognized by USDF/USEF.

All other information re. the Recognized Show requirements is correct.  SWVADA regrets any inconvenience resulting from this omission.

[Note: No changes  were made to the Schooling Show requirements for 2005, and all information in that section is correct.]

If you have any questions about these changes, contact:

Ellen Aiken, Points Chairperson
