PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Saturday was a lovely day for the SWVADA Spring Recognized Dressage Show.  Despite some ominous looking clouds in the morning, the day turned out beautifully sunny with pleasant temperatures, if a bit windy!  Green Hill Park looked fabulous - it's such a beautiful setting - all the green grass and trees contrasting against the blue sky and mountains in the distance.  Wow.... we are indeed fortunate to have it here in the Roanoke area! I especially enjoyed visiting with old friends - faces I haven't seen for awhile.  Brigitte Simmons, the judge for the day, has been a long time friend to SWVADA.  She has contributed to "the education of SWVADA" through the years as a clinician, judge and camp instructor.  She was quick to comment on how many wonderful horses and capable riders there were at the show.  SWVADA's come a long way from the early days!  Many, many thanks to Rebecca Splan and Jeanette Shires, secretary and manager respectively for the show.  Without volunteers like these two, the show simply wouldn't go on.  Thanks, too, to all the volunteers who came out and helped ensure that things ran smoothly.  What a great day!

The next SWVADA event is the June 11 ride-a-test at GHPEC with Harriet Peterson.  There are a few spaces still available, so contact me (beck56@cox.net) if you are interested.  A practice ring will be set up that day for those of you who would like to come practice a test in an "official" ring without the pressure of being judged.  Contact me for information about signing up for a practice ring time.  As always, volunteers are still needed.  Ring set up will be Friday, June 10th - come help if you can!  I can also use some people at the end of the day on Saturday to help with ring take down.  Let me know if you can help.

Thanks again to Rebecca and Jeanette for the great show - hope to see everyone out for the next event!

Beckie
