PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Remember the theme song to the tv show, Cheers - "where everybody knows your name?" To me, that's the best thing about our SWVADA shows - the participants and show management are all so friendly and supportive - it really eases those competitor nerves. With summer almost upon us, the show season is in full swing. While many of our members have already "taken the plunge" and competed in some schooling and recognized shows this spring, I've been a bit slow getting off the mark this year, but I did finally make it out at the SWVADA show this past weekend. What a fun
experience it was! I'm so proud of our local group for putting on an event like this. We're very lucky to have a facility like Green Hill Equestrian Park with it's three lovely rings as well as the volunteers to put on an awesome show like this. There was lots of "trailer hopping" as competitors caught up on what's been happening since the last show season and everybody made an effort to watch and support other riders throughout the day. It was especially nice to see some "familiar faces" (notice I didn't say 'old'!) from SWVADA's past among the spectators for the day.

So, if you're considering showing this year, come join us at the July show - I can guarantee a warm welcome and a fun time!

Beckie

NEWS in BRIEF

A big, big thank you to Pat Nelson and Jeanette Shires for, respectively, being the secretary and manager for the
SWVADA Spring Show on Saturday, May 29 at Green Hill Park. Lots of hard work from these two ladies (and their
legion of volunteers) made for a fun show that ran smoothly and efficiently. What a great day it was for our local
dressage group! The park looked awesome, the ring footing was fantastic, and the weather was perfect! What more
could you want? Thanks, ladies!

TIDBITS

All dressage competitors should own and read the sections of the USEF Rulebook pertaining to dressage. Not only does it define the purpose, levels, and movements of dressage, but it also looks at the intricacies of scoring and rules.
Every competitor should know what's legal (and not!) regarding the recognized show experience - tack, medication, warmup and test rules, etc. If you don't own a rulebook, you can find information regarding downloading and/or ordering one on the USEF website www.usef.org  Order information is under "forms and publications."    - Tamla Nichols
