PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

February is here with the promise of more snow, ice and cold!  While there's not much riding going on - unless you're lucky enough to have an indoor! - there's a lot of planning in the works for the upcoming season.  SWVADA is hoping to once again offer a variety of show and educational experiences for the membership.  Our year begins with the rescheduled Year End Celebration (thanks to that already mentioned snow, ice and cold!)  The new date for the Celebration is Saturday, February 19, at the Roanoke Wyndham.  If you find yourself now able to attend, please contact Blanche Mahoney - there's still time to make a reservation!  This is always a great chance to meet new horsey friends and catch up with what's been happening with old ones.  There'll also be the silent auction to benefit Green Hill Park and the Virginia Horse Center as well as recognition of member achievement this year.  The end of the month (February 27) brings the ever popular Educational Sunday.  Jeanette and Ellen have planned a fantastic program of seminars and Virginia Tech has graciously allowed us the use of their fabulous new facility.  Ed. Sunday promises to be a super learning experience - one I hope everyone will support!  We are still having some difficulty staffing all the planned show events.  If you're willing to manage or secretary the October 29 show, or manage the August 27 show, please let me know as soon as possible.  Thanks to those who have already contacted me to express a willingness to "apprentice" with established show staff - it'll be a fun way to learn the ins and outs of show management.  We really do need more people able (and willing) to run shows if we want to continue offering as many as we do.  Be on the lookout for the Omnibus - it will have a listing of show/event dates as well as contact people - the season will be upon us before you know it!

Hope to see you at the Year End Celebration and Educational Sunday!

Beckie

NEWS in BRIEF

February meeting will be at The Wildflour Restaurant in Hollins!

Sara Kominsky and her PRE stallion Heroico Pequeno had an action-packed month down in Wellington this January training with Pati Pierucci and seeing the sights.  They competed in various FEI TOC and Young Horse classes doing the FEI test for 6 year olds at the Derby Series Kickoff, the Gold Coast Opener CDI, and the Highlife Cup.  Out of six classes, they won 3 and placed 3rd, 5th, and 6th.

Heroico was very disappointed that all the white stuff he saw upon his return to Virginia wasn't sand....
